Squash rules
A ball exchange starts with a serve directly against the front wall above the service line. In a correct serve, the player must have at least one foot in the service box, and the ball must bounce back and land behind the short line in the opponent's half of the court (except when receiving a volley), possibly via a side wall. The player has only one serve. The opponent must return the ball towards the front wall before it has bounced twice on the floor, and volleys are allowed. The ball may be hit into the front wall via one or more other walls, but must not hit the floor before the front wall, the plate on the front wall or on or over the lane restrictions on the walls. The players then return the ball every other time. If the ball hits the opponent, or the latter stands in the way of the player, a replay (let) or point (score) can be awarded. The exchange of balls continues until one of the players is unable to return correctly.

Scoring
Points are scored on all servers. If the server loses the exchange of balls, the right to serve passes to the opponent. A game is won by the first to score 11 points, but play may continue from 10–10 until a winner with at least a two point margin, for example 10–12, 13–15 or 23–25. A match is settled by best played out of three or five games.
Equipment
We appreciate that the shoes you wear have light soles so as not to leave marks on the floor. The racket is made of graphite and or fiberglass or aluminium. It is 69 cm long while the width is approx. 19-20 cm. If you do not have your own racket, it can be rented at the reception. The squash ball is hollow, has a matte surface and is made of rubber. The weight is approx. 24 grams. At the beginning it bounces very poorly, but after playing for a while (warming up) the ball has reached the right temperature and thus became bouncy.Squash balls are available in four speed ratings which are indicated by the following ratings:
- Blue ball: most bouncy and therefore easiest and best ball for beginners.
- Black ball: medium good bounce and thus one step up from beginner.
- Ball with a yellow dot: notched below pro ball and mostly used in tournaments and further.
- Ball with two yellow dots: the ball with the least bounce and the one best suited for professional players.
Good luck!
