Hot lunch and meals

At SiO Kindergarten, we promote healthy eating habits through a varied, nutritious, and wholesome diet.Throughout the kindergarten day, we facilitate three meals where children, together with staff, experience a setting that offers great opportunities for learning in various areas, such as language development and interaction with other children and adults. Together with the home, we aim to help establish healthy eating habits from an early age.

SiO Kindergarten serves food in accordance with the dietary guidelines of the Norwegian Directorate of Health.

Many children enjoy their packed lunch. Therefore, one of the meals at our kindergarten is a brought-from-home lunchbox. SiO Kindergarten provides advice and tips on what a healthy lunchbox should contain.

All children at SiO Kindergarten are offered two meals per day – breakfast and a hot lunch. We receive hot lunches from MatiBox four days a week. On the fifth day, the kindergarten prepares the meal itself.

Vegetables and fruit are an essential part of the kindergarten’s diet and are served daily.

The life in SiO kindergarten

The days in SiO Kindergarten are adapted to the needs of the children. We believe child's play is the most important arena children have for learning, social development and development of identity. Therefore, much of the day with us is focused around children's play and children's feedback and participation. When the children arrive in the morning, we emphasize welcoming them and having a good start to the day. This is the time for quiet activities and conversations. We have varied activities for and with the children in kindergarten. Group activities with music, books, adventures, conversations and songs. We use drama groups, music classes, theatre and dance to learn different forms of expressing yourself. The children spend a lot of time in the kindergarten outside playground, or we go on trips and activities for exciting new experiences.

Cooperation with parents

In order for the child to have the best possible time with us, it is important to have a good and open dialogue with the parents. In addition to the daily dialogue we have at delivery and pickup, we have parent conversations and parent meetings each semester.

  • The parent conversation you have with the educational leader of the group, where you talk about the child's everyday life and development.
  • The parent meetings are for all the parents in the kindergarten and are about the content of the kindergarten as a whole.

Rules for pickup and fine

Kindergarten closes at 17.00. If you have nor picked up by this time, two employees will stay with the child until you arrive. There is a fine of 300,- per commenced half hour until the child is picked up.

Traditions and celebrations

Throughout the year we have many pleasant traditions in our kindergartens. Santa's Party, Lucia, Easter Breakfast, Activity Day, 17th of May celebrations, carnivals and summer parties are common to most kindergartens. Some kindergartens have other traditions as well, such as celebrating UN Day or art exhibitions. Other traditions and celebrations the children in the group mark as a part of their beliefs and traditions are also highlighted in each kindergarten.

Clothing

The child must always have two extra change of clothes in the kindergarten, suited for the current time of  the year. Also remember slippers or indoor shoes. Parents with children who wear diapers most bring diapers, wipes and ointments to the kindergarten. It is important to label all clothes and equipment with names so that you do not lose anything and we can find the owner of lost clothes and property.
