Book a Doctor’s Appointment on Helsenorge

We are testing new solutions for booking appointments on Helsenorge. You may see both the old and the new system. Sometimes you will go straight to your doctor’s calendar, and other times we will ask you to answer a some questions first.

    When We Ask You to Answer Some QuestionsBefore you can book an appointment, we’ll ask you to answer some questions. This helps us give you better care.Your answers make it possible for us to offer urgent appointments and video appointments, as well as regular in‑person visits or text consultations - depending on what you need. Your doctor also uses your answers to prepare for your appointment.Just log in to Helsenorge, answer the questions, and then pick a time from the calendar.

    For some types of consultations, you must call us at 22853300 to schedule an appointment. This applies to:

    • first pregnancy check-up
    • driver’s license medical certificate
    • health certificate
    • minor surgical removals
    • IUD insertion

    Are you an international student?

    Have you become acutely ill?

    Most urgent appointments are made available on Helsenorge about 24 hours before the appointment time. If you need an emergency doctor’s appointment, you can also call us in the morning at 22853300.

    Recently changed your general practitioner to SiO?

    A change in general practitioner applies from the first day of the following month.

    Do you need an absence certificate?

    If you need a medical certification of absence for an exam or a mandatory class, please call us the same day at 22853300. Please note that we cannot issue certificates retroactively

    Are you struggling with mental health issues?

    You can apply for councelling/therapy at SiO Mental Health and Counseling without a referral from a doctor. You will receive a response within a week or a recommendation that suits your issue. Read more and find the link to the application form here.

    How to prepare for your doctor’s appointment

    A normal doctor’s appointment lasts 15 minutesTherefore, there’s a limit on how much you’ll be able to talk about. If needed, your doctor will set up a follow-up appointment for you.

    Do you need to turn in a urine sample?If you are having a first pregnancy check-up or suspect a urinary tract infection, you must bring a sample of morning urine from the same day.

    Illness on an exam dayIf you get sick during your exam period, you must contact the doctor's office on the same day. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the exam rules at your place of study.

    Cancellation of appointment

    If you are unable to attend your appointment, please remember to cancel it in time to avoid a fee. See our deadlines in the price list

    Drop-in for some tests and procedures

    For sexually transmitted infection self-tests, testing of MRSA, and removal of stitches by a nurse, you don’t need to book an appointment beforehand - you can just come by.Find your health care center and opening hours for drop-in here. Sign in at the reception when you arrive, and you will get to talk to a doctor or nurse as soon as they have time. There can be some waiting time.Tests and self-tests are free for students who have paid the semester fee. For removal of stitches, you must also have your general practitioner at SiO. See the price list for the cost of removal of stitches.

    Start a text consultation with your general practitioner

    1. Log in to Helsenorge
    2. Click on "Contact your GP - request an appointment or advice"
    3. Choose the relevant issue

    A text consultation will be answered within five working days.Text consultations cannot be used for sick leave needs.

    Renewal of prescriptions

    If you use medicines that have been prescribed by your GP in SiO in the past, you can easily renew these prescriptions from Helsenorge.It can take up to five working days to get a prescription renewal, and you’ll get a message when your prescription is ready. If you need a prescription for a medicine that you have not been prescribed by SiO before, you must book a doctor's appointment for this.

    Changing your GP after finishing studies

    If your GP is in SiO, you must change to another doctor outside of the SiO system when you have finished your studies. Students who move back to their former municipality within three years and the registered home address is still the same, are entitled to return to their GP in the municipality - even if the GP's list is full.Students who have formally moved abroad are not entitled to return to their former GP.
