Good to know before you start treatment
The method we use is called Exposure Therapy and is a reliable and effective method. It consists of gradual and carefully controlled exposure to the things that create fear, with the aim of creating new and better experiences.
It is important during treatment that you are willing to experience discomfort while being exposed to the feared situation. The benefit is decreased anxiety and increased coping when having injections or being exposed to blood related situations.
What happens during treatment?
- Treatment begins with a session with a psychologist at SiO Mental Health. During this session the psychologist will ask you about your symptoms and give you information about how anxiety starts and how it can be treated. Together, you will decide on your goals for treatment and plan the treatment approach.
- Together with your psychologist, you will decide when to start exposure in the laboratory. The psychologist will accompany you there, and you will in a safe and calm way practice the different situations that create anxiety.
- The laboratory staff is informed of your anxiety and will work with you in your own tempo so that you can reach your goals.
- You and your psychologist will decide together whether the exposure treatment should be repeated.
- You will be in charge during the exposure treatment and can pause or terminate the treatment at any time.
What does the treatment cost?
The treatment is free-of-charge for students.
