A simple equation

Here’s the simple math: most people in Norway have to cover all their healthcare expenses themselves – up to NOK 3,278 per year. After that, the government steps in and covers the rest. That’s called reaching the “frikort” - exemption card limit.

But if you're a student in Oslo, you’ve got a golden opportunity. If you switch your GP to one at SiO, you can apply to get all expenses above NOK 490 refunded. That means you can save over NOK 2,700 per year. Why does SiO do this? Well, because we’re here for you – and your health matters.

What about your old GP back home?

If you switch to a SiO GP, you can always switch back to your previous GP after you’re done studying in Oslo. As long as it’s within three years and you’re still registered in the population registry at your home address, you’re entitled to get your old GP back.

And what about exams?

If you’re unlucky enough to get sick during an exam period, you’ll need a doctor’s note. That can be tricky if your GP is all the way back in Sirdal. But with a SiO GP, you can get a doctor’s note when you’re sick – no stress.

PS: To get a GP through SiO, you need to be a student at one of the Oslo-based institutions affiliated with SiO – and you need to have paid the semester fee - but of course you’ve done that already.
