What is a refund of healthcare expenses?
Healthcare refunds in SiO mean that if you’re a SiO student with GP in SiO you can apply to get paid back for healthcare-related expenses over 490 NOK per year. This means that you pay a maximum of 490 NOK per year, and we cover the rest of your expenses. Do you study at OsloMet Kjeller without a general practitioner in SiO? Then you can apply for a refund for expenses over NOK 655 per year.
Expenses you can get refunded for
The refund scheme applies for the most typical expenses you have to pay a user fee for. For example, this could be:
- Appointment with your GP in SiO
- Appointment with a psychologist or physical therapist, with an agreement
- Appointment with doctor specialists with operating grants
- Appointment at an outpatient clinic at public hospital
- X-ray/MR, with an agreement
- Medications and equipment on a “blue” prescription

How to apply for a refund
You can apply for a refund at any time during the entire year. If you are applying for an entire calendar year, the deadline is January 31 the following year. This means that if you are applying for a refund for expenses you have had in 2025, you must submit your application for refund before January 31, 2026.The money is paid out once the application is processed and approved.

Exemption card from Helfo
